Annie met bassist Linda Schmidt at a barbecue in1992. After discussing the difficulties of beeing female musicians in a male dominated genre, they decided to start Tee Fee Swamp Boogie. Inspired by the work of Queen Ida Guillory, they formed the band with Annie Marie on lead vocals, fiddle & accordion; Linda on electric bass and Ledra Guillory (Queen Ida's daughter) on rubboard. They called the band Tee Fee Swamp Boogie after the Clifton Chenier song and to be sure that everyone would know that it was a woman led band. As the band developed they added Leonard Gill on electric guitar (BB King, Otis Clay, Otis Rush, Allen Fontenot, Al Rapone); and Maureen Coyle on rub board and vocals (the Bunyups, Willy and Mo). Upon the untimely illness and death of their guitarist of 12 years, they were joined by the talented Kevin Suto on guitar in 2005 (Rancid, Reggie Red Rock Skeeter, The Von Traps, The Bell Brothers). When Linda retired in 2009, Tee Fee added the versatile bassist Diane Dutra (Marty Balin, Luther Tucker, Jimmy McCracklin, Red Archibald, Raymond Victor). Since Dutra plays both upright and electric bass, Tee Fee now can offer an acoustic version of the band which is well suited to smaller intimate venues. Dutra has given the band a new drive and energy and they are looking forward to another decade of infectious dance music!

Queen Ida Guillory provided inspiration
and help to Tee Fee Swamp boogie. She
gave Annie Marie the certainty that a
woman could lead a Texas/Louisiana style
band and her daughter, Ledra, was Tee
Fee’s first rubboard player. Queen Ida was
recently presented with a lifetime honor by
the National Endowment for the Arts for her
contribution to folk music and arts. She
was selected as one of the 2009 recipients
of the nation's highest honor in the folk and traditional arts, the NEA National Heritage Fellowships. To read more about Queen Ida
